For awhile I thought fitness was just specializing at one particular thing like weight training, cardio, balance, or flexibility. If you research what fitness is, it tells you the condition of being physically fit. What?… That doesn’t really tell you anything right? So, if you dig a little deeper you will find that what being physically fit, in simple terms, is specializing in not specializing. To define that, it means you are not good at just one thing, but you are good at everything (well rounded).
To relate fitness to everyday life you would want to be able to have the endurance and stamina to keep up with your kids but also have the strength to lift them up. Or having the flexibility to not have aches and pains in your joints.
Now lets say you play a specific sport like football and your position is a linebacker. To play this position you definitely need to have all 10 components of fitness (power, stamina, balance, endurance, agility, speed, accuracy, flexibility, strength, and coordination). You would need to have the strength and speed to take running backs down and to push blockers off of you, and the agility to run from side-line to side-line and coordination to catch interceptions.
You always want to be working on your fitness because you never know what component of fitness you will need and when you will need to use it. Life is unpredictable and you want to be ready for it!
